HAMAN, Vladimír
With the help of modern, advanced medicine and technology it is possible now days to treat patients suffering from chronic respiratory illness of respiratory tract in home environment. This type of therapy helps patients to deal with their illness in familiar surroundings. It has positive influence on their psychology but also it may have positive effect on their condition. More time and attention should be devoted to this issue as it is expected that number of patients suffering from respiratory disease will increase. The point of this project called Current possibilities of domestic respiratory therapy, is to find out whether long term domestic oxygenotherapy has more influence on patient's physical condition that long term oxygen treatment of patient who has been hospitalized for a long time. Theoretical part of the project is to make readers familiar with the history of oxygen therapy, anatomy of respiratory airway and its physiology, conditions in which oxygen treatment is needed, current possibilities of oxygen treatment and risks factors resulting from long-term use of oxygen. Qualitative research was used in practice. Communication and examination of long-term patients in home environment who were treated by oxygen and patients who were long-term hospitalized in South-Bohemia region. From results of research concludes that in order to answer this question, number of patients for examination must be increased. This is however, time consuming and difficult as looking for respondents is not easy. Even if respondents are available to conduct the research, it is not possible to conclude that they will cooperate as only few of them are able to talk openly about their condition. This kind of research should be suggested to medical doctors pneumologists, who indicate the therapy and spent the minimum of three times per month directly with patients. Because of the small number of respondents in this research, it is not possible to answer the question accurately whether the long-term home based respiratory therapy improves patients physical endurance comparing to long-term hospitalized patients.
